The Clubhouse @ solarcene.community

The Clubhouse is a virtual workspace for people who create. Its goal is to be provide support particularly to those working solo, almost a 'slack for people who don't have a slack'. The focus is on collaboration, helping each other and providing mentoring and knowledge. Due to the challenging economic situation throughout the world there are also elements of mutual aid built in.

How does it work?

The Clubhouse is currently in 'beta' testing, in the future there will be a very small subscription that will go towards infrastructure costs but also allow for mutual aid through grants for people within the community who would like help.

The setup in the clubhouse is slightly unusual; the main focus is the IRC channels but unlike normal IRC servers there are only a few fixed channels available, there are no clear topics for the channels (apart from #adminoffice). Instead treat the Clubhouse as a virtual workspace, with different rooms where you can work on projects, chat with colleagues and scheme about changing the world for good.

We have also disabled private messages on the server, conversations are open to the group and the community expects that these discussions should remain civil and kind. If you need to privately message a colleague/club member perhaps you can email them.

The Clubhouse is hosted in the UK so it is necessary to follow the Online Safety Act - we will publish a risk assessment as required by law as soon as possible.

Getting Started

1. First get in touch with the admin team via email: solarcene@protonmail.com
2. To access The Clubhouse you will need a key
• You can either ask the admin for one to be sent to you by email
• Or setup a self-signed certificate (follow https://www.oftc.net/NickServ/CertFP/#automatically-identifying-using-ssl--certfp
3. Load the key into your chosen IRC client alongside the server address clubhouse.solarcene.community and port 6697
4. Log into the server, you will arrive in the #reception channel and you will notice you can't join any channels or send commands. You need to identify your TLS certificate fingerprint (which will be displayed just below this text). If you need help just ask in #reception or via email.

5. Send this long code to the admin by email and they will add it to the list. Once its registered you'll be able to properly join the server and get involved!
